I recently joined a great online community of indie artists/designers called indiepublic.com to promote 2GP. I’ve made a few friends, great feedback on 2GP products and have bought some awesome handmade quality goods from other indiepublic peeps. One of my first friends/finds was Rachel of “Miniatures by Rachel”. She specializes in handmade miniatures of cakes and desserts. Once I saw her amazing skills I commissioned her to replicate my wedding cake, she said yes and she finished it while I was away in China. Fred and I had what is called a “quake cake” where the cake was crooked and looked as though it was about to fall over… I loved the cake and I love this miniature equally. I’m amazed how Rachel was able to get the right look / colors of the flowers and icing. The whole thing is beautiful. I plan on taking more photos once it is in my hot little hands. Until then check out the rest of Rachel’s amazing, realistic miniatures on her blog.

Look how tiny it is!!!
There are so many things I love about the holidays. The chill in the air allowing me to layer sweaters with scarves, hand making holiday gifts, family / friend get-together that include champagne, setting up decorations but most of all I love baking holiday cookies.

A couple of weeks ago I tried out a couple of new recipes. The top image features PB&J Sandwich Cookies. Two peanut butter cookies sandwiched together with peanut butterĀ frosting and raspberry jam. They were very good but you could only have one or two at a time because they were so rich. The bottom image features Andes Mint Chip Cookies. A traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe but with Andes brand mint chips. I like these a lot because mint is my flavor but I was alone in liking these cookies and thus had eat them all myself… Both recipes were good but not great and I doubt I’ll be making them again. They were worth the try…
Taking a cue from Lynn I decided to be domestic and bake! It’s true…I had some apples that were about to expire so I baked them up in a delish caramel apple upside down cake. I served it up, hot out of the oven, when my in-laws came to visit. I’m not usually into baked fruit things… I don’t like the spongy texture of rehydrated fruit, especially apples, like what you find in single serving Quaker oatmeal BUT because the apples were fresh it was super tasty!!

No one died so I’d say it was a success.
The pretty plate my bakery masterpiece is sitting on is from a local pottery show I went to last week. I brought home 2 desert plates, 2 ice cream bowls and 1 soup bowl. All unique, all made by local Northwest potters and all for less than 20 bucks. It is my hope to continue to gather pieces to have a one-of-a-kind dinnerware collection. At the last, my first, pottery show I bought home decor pieces and a cereal bowl for Fred. My friend Jenny was the one to introduce me to the pottery show, I now look forward to the each one.
